One year since I started this little blog in a kitchen in South Dublin. I had just moved to the city and was struggling to look for a job. There For A Reason gave me something to work on everyday and I have tried out so much because of it: baking, photography, travel writing, the works!
Now I am boxed up in Manila. Day four of heavy rains and floods across the north of Luzon. Just like Ireland, another rainy country, except the rain here is warm, excessive and deadly fast!
My floral gumboots and long jacket were not enough to keep dry in the long work trudge. Most of the office couldn’t make it in with roads and houses washing away. Although the airport isn’t closed, no one can get there or leave with a taxi shortage. Nearly every Embassy was closed today due to Tropical Storm Maring, but at New Zealand we persisted with a skeleton staff. I am inspired by the dedication and commitment of our Ambassador, Vice Consul and Immigration-side staff who were here just to be available if needed. Working for those who can’t.
It has been a long time since I have experienced a monsoon, but I can say it is still spectacular. So much water! Claps of thunder waking you up at 3am. It really is incomparable to anything else I have experienced on my travels.
To be honest, I am nervous about what August 2014 holds!
