An Evening at the Cliffs

cliffs of moherI love the Cliffs of Moher. I have to confess that I really knew nothing about Ireland before I came here. Sure, I knew about potatoes and a little bit about the IRA, but in comparison to how much I know know, I was really ignorant. I didn’t even know what the Cliffs of Moher were. Now I’ve been there about half a dozen times and it never gets old. Unfortunately, Jack wasn’t impressed at all. He doesn’t deserve to be here πŸ™‚

We probably bit off more than we could chew in trying to drive Slea Head, Limerick and the Cliffs of Moher in one day. You can imagine the immense relief at finally arriving in the Cliffs car park at 6pm after driving almost nonstop since about 9am.

The place had emptied out after a day of tourists, so late is definitely the best time to go. Still got charged for the car park and the visitor’s centre though, so boo! We did nip in to the exhibition, but most of the centre facilities had closed. We weren’t really there for that anyway. Nope, we were there to get drizzles on and windswept. Could only just see the Aran Islands.
obrien's tower Jack brigetteJack got banned from doing the guiding because he tried to tell us that the Cliffs of Moher were once painted white.

Brigette: “Where does it say that?”

Jack: “Just here. Next to the word gullible.”

And so he was banned. Brigette took over the fact reading as we walked from one end of the cliffs to the other.

After walking around as much as we could stand before we got too hungry we made our way down to our hostel in Doolin, which is the next post :3

  1. The first (and only) time I went to the Cliffs of Moher, we also did the trip in one day! Quite exhausting I have to say, but the view really worth it. At the time the car park was free and so was the visitor centre. I haven’t been there since 2002 so the surroundings must have changed a lot! The weather seemed OK when you went, which is always a plus, you don’t want to drive all day and only see fog…

    • I’ve been there on a super foggy day as well, it was still quite the experience, but I know what you mean πŸ˜› Things have changed since I was last there in 2012. They have extended the fences, which is a fabulous idea! I’m terrified of heights as it is!
