Monte Cecilia – A Hidden Park

Irish Blog awards opened for nominations yesterday. They started up around the same time I began blogging. Last year, I judged. This year I threw myself in for nomination. Exciting.

Saturday morning Mum and I walked up to Monte Cecilia park for coffee. It was 9 degrees, but felt like 20. The sun was bright and the sky was mostly cloudless.

The Pah Homestead sits at the top of the park. It is a stately home/nunnery come art gallery. Donation entry and has an awesome coffee shop. The front terrace has plenty of chairs and tables for alfresco eating.

We ordered a couple of coffees and went out onto the terrace – along with everyone else visiting that day!

I was interested in the cheeky birds. No sooner had the diners left, they came in to clean up. Cute little featheries.

After coffee we took a short walk around the sculpture garden. Some very interesting pieces on show at the moment! Like this light.

This is my favourite. If you look though the sculpture from the right angle it lines up perfectly withΒ One Tree HillΒ in the distance. A little less creepy that the stitched up people below. I stood right by the lady and looked up. God knows that they’re staring at because I couldn’t see anything.

Nice views as well, over the Manukau Harbour to Mangere Mountain and across to One Tree Hill.

The park is almost a hideaway. Unlike One Tree Hill, it is not a well-trodden Auckland Park. There are entrance paths and access ways off Hillsborough, Pah, Mt Albert and Herd roads in the Hillsborough/Three Kings area. No matter which one you choose, you have to walk in and up to Monte Cecilia.

We came up the hill by Marcellin College and left down the sweeping lawn to Pah Road.

All in all a good walk and lovely morning out.

Good Morning One Tree Hill

Another threatening morning in Auckland City. This is the view from my bedroom window. Nice. Perhaps not nice enough to get up at 7 a.m. and walk up, but nice.

Frost on the car windshields, too. Definitely winter.

And I don’t think I am giving much away with this – received the fabric swatches for my wedding gown from Sally Eagle in Wellington.
